Senior forum reveals need to better communicate resources already available to older residents

The Tiburon Peninsula’s older residents identified reliable transportation, accessible support and activities that provide community connection as priorities at a June 17 forum hosted by local representatives to the Marin Commission on Aging.

But one of the biggest takeaways, according to Tiburon’s representative, Jane Gould, was many resources already exist and residents just don’t know about them.

During the forum, held at the Belvedere-Tiburon Library for residents 60 and older, Gould and Belvedere’s Larry Binkley had attendees respond to several questions through an informal conversation, among them if they intended to age in place and what makes that easy or difficult on the peninsula; any issues they experience such as food insecurity or getting medical appointments; and events and communications they would find useful, such as a newsletter or health and aging expert talks.

Access to reliable transportation was one of the greatest concerns for participants.
