Angel Island reopens 16 boat slips, pushes dock renovation to 2026
Angel Island State Park has reopened 16 of the 42 existing boat slips at Ayala Cove after making some temporary repairs to address safety concerns — though a larger planned overhaul of the entire dilapidated boat dock set for summer has been delayed to June 2026.
All had been closed since December as the park planned for a $2.7-million renovation to update the dock, with a target construction date of June. The project will increase the number of slips from 42 to 48, add lighting and potable fresh water while also making the dock accessible under Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. However, that’s now been delayed by a year, mostly due to the permitting process that requires sign-offs from the Bay Conservation and Development Commission, the California State Water Resources Control Board, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
However, state parks staff is also closely monitoring the promised $1.5-million federal grant from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife’s Boating Infrastructure Grant program amid President Donald Trump’s ongoing and controversial efforts to downsize the federal government.
