Belvedere council approves $550k from excess cash to fund Beach Road project

Belvedere will direct some $550,000 in extra cash from last year’s budget toward critical infrastructure projects, including a $3-million plan to fortify Beach Road against erosion, while leaving the remaining $300,000 in the general fund with no specific designation.

The City Council voted unanimously at its Dec. 9 meeting to approve the allocation, which came at the recommendation of the city’s Finance Committee. The item was originally on the council’s consent calendar, typically reserved for bulk approval of items deemed noncontroversial, but it was pulled off by Mayor Jane Cooper to ask a clarifying question; there was no substantial discussion by the council.

The new allocation would bring the critical-infrastructure fund to $2.4 million by the end of the current fiscal year in June.
