Belvedere OKs project for two new 6,000-square-foot homes on adjacent lots

A rendering shows the approved three-story, 6,008-square-foot home that will be built at 443 Belvedere Ave. and will serve as the owner’s primary residence. A second home approved for construction on their vacant lot nextdoor, at 441 Belvedere Ave., will be sold. (Thompson Studio Architects)

A property owner has the city’s permission to build two new 6,000-square-foot homes on adjacent sloping waterfront lots on the southwest side of Belvedere Island.

The Planning Commission in separate 6-1 votes at its Oct. 15 meeting backed plans to demolish the existing home and build a new one at 443 Belvedere Ave., where the owner will live, and to build a new home on the vacant lot next door at 441 Belvedere Ave., which will be sold.

Each property would also have one accessory and one junior accessory dwelling unit for a total of six housing units across the two properties, reflecting the listed goals for the parcels in Belvedere’s draft eight-year housing plans mandated by the state.
