Belvedere poised to shrink Planning Commission from 7 members to 5

Belvedere is set to reduce the size of its Planning Commission from seven members to five, a move city officials say will allow the board to operate more efficiently and more easily achieve consensus.

 

The City Council at its Jan. 13 meeting voiced support for the proposal, directing staff to prepare the necessary changes to city rules for a vote on Feb. 10. A second vote would be required at the council’s March 10 meeting, and the changes would take effect 30 days later.

 

In a report prepared for the council meeting, city staff said now is a prime time for the city to make the changes, as the commission currently has two vacancies after Burke and Pat Carapiet moved to the City Council late last year following an uncontested election in November. Two residents had submitted letters of interest to fill their slots, but the city clerk has informed them of the discussion to reduce the size of the commission, City Manager Robert Zadnik said.
