Belvedere has recognized one of its police sergeants for helping to save the life of a man whose heart stopped while jogging — a full-circle moment for the officer, who survived the same medical emergency years earlier thanks to his wife’s quick action.

Police Chief Jason Wu presented Sgt. Jeremy Clark with the Police Department’s Life Saving Award during the City Council’s meeting March 10. Clark performed CPR on an out-of-town jogger, a man in his 50s who was not breathing and had no pulse, about 5:30 p.m. Feb. 25.

The jogger is expected to make a full recovery, Clark said in a March 12 phone interview.

Clark’s life-saving efforts began after a 17-year-old resident who happened to be nearby was the first on the scene to perform CPR, according to the girl’s father and another witness.
