Belvedere teammates, friends turn rivals for girls tennis crown

For most of the tennis season, Belvedere’s Mirabel Arlander and Katie Warrin are practically inseparable. It was tennis that brought them together as friends more than three years ago, the summer before Warrin became Arlander’s teammate as a freshman at The Branson School in Ross. It was friendship that took Warrin to southern France two summers ago, where she made a special trip to visit Arlander, who was studying abroad her junior year as she trained at the Mouratoglou Tennis Academy.

Together, the varsity teammates are powerhouses. On Nov. 16, they helped lead Branson to the California Interscholastic Federation’s North Coast Section Division II championship, taking out San Francisco University High School at Golden Gate Park. Katie’s sister Alexa Warrin and Tiburon Peninsula teammates Paloma Vano-Rice, Kaylee Jiang and Siena Yang were also part of the winning squad.

And as singles players, the pair has also proven to be the county’s best, leading to a seemingly inevitable matchup and an all-new challenge: each other.
