Belvedere-Tiburon Library plans Green Takeover; volunteers are needed for sustainability projects
The Belvedere-Tiburon Library is recruiting volunteers to help with two new green initiatives: developing a sustainability-focused program or event for the community and expanding its Library of Things collection to include more environmentally friendly items.
Residents can sign up to work on either or both projects, dubbed the Green Takeover, through Jan. 8, said Adult Services Librarian Katie Winters.
Those who sign up to develop the sustainability program or event will work with staff to determine what activity to host, then will work to engage the community and to market and run the event. The event is tentatively set for May or June, and the project is open-ended as long as it is free and relates to the theme of sustainability, Winters said. Previous green events the library has hosted have included a book club, in which members met monthly to discuss fiction and nonfiction books with a focus on the Earth; e-waste recycling and paper shredding events; and a disaster-preparedness workshop. The library in 2023 also hosted a Green Week with speakers, interactive programs and a green fair.
