Celebration of life planned for gallery owner Barry Smith on April 11

Writer: Francisco MartinezFrancisco Martinez

A public celebration of life for Paradise Cay resident Barry Smith, the owner and curator of Smith Gallery Tiburon, will be held 11 a.m.-1 p.m. April 11 at the Tiburon Tavern, 1651 Tiburon Blvd.

Smith died Feb. 18, his 70th birthday, after experiencing a medical emergency while in his downtown shop.

Smith opened the gallery in 2017, selling sailing art, abstract pieces, contemporary works and California-specific creations, and also operating a knife-sharpening business out of the same space.

He was a painter himself, working with acrylics and producing works of the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco skyline, animals and local landmarks such as the Hippie Tree and Sam’s Anchor Cafe.

Guests may wear casual attire at the celebration of life, and light refreshments will be served. Those seeking further information can text Smith’s sister-in-law Maria Sevilla at 916-485-1449.

Some of Smith’s art pieces are still available for sale, Sevilla said, with proceeds going toward settling his estate’s medical bills. More information is available at the gallery, located at 1690 Tiburon Blvd.
