Del Mar Middle School’s robotics team, the Bearded Dragons, teamed up with Artemis Robotics, an all-girls squad out of Redwood High School, to take first place among 16 teams at the NorCal-First Tech Challenge Pen League Tournament, held Feb. 1 at Jefferson High School in Daly City.

“To see Del Mar students and Del Mar graduates succeed at such a high level warms my heart,” said Nate MacDonald, Del Mar’s robotics coach and advanced-robotics teacher.

Del Mar’s squad includes eighth graders Miles Burkland, Oliva Kellerman, Charlie Levernier, Jake Levernier, Sophia Nachtigall, Sebastien Pascal, Nikhil Sanjeev and Axel Smith; and seventh graders Alex Chobantonov, River Chong, Ryan Nasser Knowles and Nicholas Totev.

Tiburon Peninsula residents on the Redwood squad include Maayan Bujanover and Nikki Lamb, both former Del Mar robotics students.
