Jessica Owens tries to savor the little things on her regular after-work walk at Blackie’s Pasture — her dog, Poppy, by her side, the sunset, a chance to catch up on her favorite podcasts.
She walks her usual route, starting from the parking lot toward the playground and back, while her children, ages 9 and 13, are at sports practices, and on a recent late afternoon was listening to the New York Times’ “The Daily” podcast, learning more about what is going on in Washington, D.C., and the federal government.
The Tiburon resident moved from San Francisco with her family six years ago. She is the co-founder of Initiate Ventures, which funds early-stage biotechnology and health technology companies, but she started her career at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta as a researcher. She said the effects of a second Trump administration on the CDC has been on her mind lately.
