Everyday Encounters: A retired physical therapist finds community connection at the Tiburon Thrift Shop

Nancy Sumner traded her career in rehabilitation for volunteering among the treasures of the local thrift store, finding unexpected connections with visitors from around the world.

 

“You meet people from all over,” Sumner, 68, said during a break from her volunteer shift at the Tiburon Thrift Shop & Boutique on April 3.

 

The small shop on lower Ark Row features paintings on the walls, colorful antique collectibles on tables and racks of used clothing — all donations from local residents. Sumner has volunteered there monthly since retiring in 2015.
