Googler, lawyer win spots on Belvedere parks board

Belvedere’s parks committee has added two new members, a father of young children who works at Google and a longtime resident with a background in nonprofit work and environmental law.

 

John Schirm and Marika Bergsund were appointed to the Parks, Open Spaces and Lanes Committee by a 3-0 vote of the City Council on July 8. Mayor Peter Mark and councilmember Jim Lynch were absent.

 

Schirm will fill an interim seat created when board Chair Jena Watson was appointed to Planning Commission and will serve the remainder of Watson’s term, through May 31, 2027. Bergsund was appointed to a four-year term, filling one of two additional vacancies on the board created when longtime members Jean Bordon and Kathryn Pearce decided not to apply for reappointment when their terms expired in May. The council last month appointed resident Wayne Stacy, the executive director of the Berkeley Center for Law & Technology, to fill the other four-year vacancy.
