Ira Mendlowitz

Ira Mendlowitz passed away on Friday, August 23, 2024, at MarinHealth Medical Center in California. He was 79 years old.

 

Born in New York, NY, to Arthur and Ellen (née Teitelbaum) Mendlowitz, he resided there for 20 years, before moving to Hawaii, and settling down in Belvedere, California.

 

Ira received his doctorate degree in music composition from Stanford University. He was a self-employed musician and teacher for 55 years.

 

In his spare time, he enjoyed performing for friends. Ira was proud to have studied with Darius Milhaud, Nadia Boulanger, and Morton Subotnick. His greatest joy was bringing the love of music to his students.

 

Ira is predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Ellen Mendlowitz.

 

Surviving are his brother, Edward Mendlowitz and his wife, Ronnie, of East Brunswick, NJ; nephews Andrew and Richard; and grandnephews, Samuel and Ryan.

 

Services took place at Beth Israel Cemetery, Woodbridge, under the direction of Mount Sinai Memorial Chapels, East Brunswick, NJ.
