Tiburon has earmarked an additional $200,000 toward legal services to help cover the costs of four active lawsuits facing the town.

The Town Council voted unanimously at its Feb. 19 meeting to allocate the money from the town’s general-fund operating reserve, bringing projections for total budgeted legal expenditures for the 2024-2025 fiscal year to $751,735.

The majority of that money is used to cover the costs of legal services, not any potential settlements, which are typically covered by insurance after a deductible. Three of the four pending suits are covered by insurance, said Town Manager Greg Chanis, while the fourth, filed by a group of Paradise Drive residents aiming to ensure a site stays removed from the city’s eight-year housing plan, is not seeking monetary damages.
