Marin makes moves to tackle safety near Strawberry Point school

Just in time for the start of classes, the main road to and from Strawberry Point Elementary now has 15 mph school zone, one of several changes requested by area parents to increase pedestrian safety.

The change, approved by the Marin Board of Supervisors Aug. 13, reduces the posted speed limit on East Strawberry Drive from 25 mph to 15 mph for 500 feet in each direction — to Belvedere Drive to the north and Harbor Cove Way to the south — when kids are present, mainly before and after school.

County spokesperson Laine Hendricks said four signs along the stretch were to be installed at the latest by tomorrow, Aug. 22, the first day of school for the Mill Valley School District.

Earlier this month, the county began tackling other parent requests studied and recommended by the Department of Public Works and then approved by the supervisors in June. That includes a no-parking zone with raised delineators along the northern side of Ricardo Lane to slow traffic and a four-way stop at East Strawberry Drive and Ricardo Lane.
