Marin supervisors revise housing plans to meet court, state requirements

The Marin Board of Supervisors last week voted unanimously to remove controversial “precedence clauses” from its eight-year housing roadmap while adding new fair-housing language to maintain compliance with state housing laws, a move that seeks to end a yearslong dispute that reached the courts.

 

The March 4 amendments to the state-certified 2023-2031 housing element and countywide plan reflected the Marin Planning Commission’s December recommendations alongside two last-minute tweaks requested by the California Department of Housing and Community Development, which must review any changes to ensure the county remains in compliance with state law.

 

The state has been reviewing the recommended updates since January and provided the feedback to help clear a path toward compliance and formal adoption by the supervisors. The revised housing element will now be sent back to Sacramento for formal 90-day review.
