McKegney Green plan: New scheduling rules, higher fees, no community-use priority
Tiburon parks commissioners have signed off on an updated use policy for McKegney Green, though it scraps plans to penalize violations after pushback from the local lacrosse club. And while the initial goal was to address concerns that youth club sports were limiting community use, there are no new provisions to address that.
The Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission voted 4-0, with one vacancy, Jan. 29 to forward the changes to the Town Council for consideration, expected in March. The revised policy would establish new scheduling requirements for youth sports leagues — effectively the Tiburon Peninsula Soccer and Southern Marin Lacrosse clubs — requiring them to submit requests by July 7 for the fall soccer season and Feb. 7 for spring lacrosse or risk losing their season-priority designations.
The updated policy would also increase rental fees to $80 per hour, allow multiple groups on the field at once, cap lacrosse grade limits at eighth for girls and sixth for boys and put field-closure statuses online.
