Preteen Tiburon diver makes waves with rescue certification

When Tobias Hochstetler’s teachers and classmates ask him what he did during his summer vacation, he probably has everyone else beat.


The 12-year-old Tiburon resident spent the summer becoming one of the world’s youngest rescue divers certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors, an ocean exploration and diver organization. Tobias completed his training in Maui; the seventh-grader at Marin Montessori School in Corte Madera is in the youngest age group eligible to become certified.
