Corte Madera resident Yueying Zhong will show his brush ink paintings in a Town Hall exhibit opening May 1.

Zhong’s works will be displayed in the upstairs gallery through June 30, with an artist’s reception set for 6-8 p.m. May 6.

Zhong, 65, has excelled at brush ink painting for more than 40 years. He grew up in northeast China, near the Russian border, during the Chinese Cultural Revolution and was always interested in art. He remembers being fascinated by the paintings on propaganda posters — not the words. By age 10, he was so adept at painting he won a province-wide art contest.

After graduating from the department of Chinese painting at Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in 1984, he stayed on as a faculty member while studying at Peking University for the next two years. He then earned a master’s degree from Lu Xun Academy and became an editor for Art magazine, published by the China Artists Association.
