Amy Rennert says she’s just had the “most satisfying sports experience” of her life — and at age 70, that’s “especially gratifying.”

The Tiburon resident captained a team of Northern California tennis players 65 and over to victory at the U.S. Tennis Association’s 9.0 National Invitational Jan. 31-Feb. 2 in Surprise, Arizona. It’s the third consecutive year Rennert has won the competition, which she says is remarkable as she’s aged and younger players joined.

Rennert and her teammate beat former tennis pros in the semifinal and final to win, an accomplishment she says she’ll cherish for a long time.

“It’s a very good thing I didn’t know all of that before I stepped on the court,” Rennert says.

For Rennert, the recent victory is another remarkable accolade across her professional and personal life. She is a literary agent whose clients have included Pulitzer Prize winners and long-distance swimmers; edited two major magazines; once finished 28th out of more than 1,000 participants at a World Series of Poker event; and she and her partner were one among the original 4,000 same-sex couples that received marriage licenses from San Francisco in 2004 as part of the city’s historic fight for marriage equality.
