Stanford University’s Nishesh Basavareddy sailed to victory in the Tiburon Challenger at the Tiburon Peninsula Club, taking down fellow American Eliot Spizzirri in the Oct. 6 final in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1.

It was the first Association of Tennis Professionals Challenger Tour title for the 19-year-old out of Carmel, Indiana, after he fell just short in the finals of the Charleston Challenger in Charleston, South Carolina, in September and the final of the Cranbrook Tennis Classic in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, in July.

In the Tiburon final, Basavareddy, ranked No. 199 in the world as of Oct. 7, won 56 of 85 total points available, including 68% of points on serve and 64% of points on returns. He also had five aces to Spizzirri’s one.

“To finally get this one means a lot, especially with the performance I had today,” he said in an on-court interview after the victory. “I’m just thrilled.”
