Strawberry man hit with felony molestation and weapons charges

A Strawberry man has been charged with attempted child molestation and with possessing an AR-15 with no serial number after his arrest late last month as part of a sting operation by police in Placer County. In addition to the assault rifle, the search of the suspect’s peninsula residence turned up 10 other unregistered guns and a cache of ammunition, authorities say.

Travis Matthew Foster, 37, was arraigned Oct. 2 in Marin Superior Court on one felony count of possessing an assault weapon. He was set to enter a plea at 9:15 a.m. Oct. 8, after The Ark’s press deadline.

He was also charged Sept. 24 in Placer County on three separate felony counts: attempting to perform a lewd or lascivious act upon a child under 14, communication with a minor with intent to commit an unlawful offense and sending “harmful material” to seduce a minor. An arraignment date for those charges had not been set by The Ark’s deadline; if convicted on any of those counts, Foster would be required to register as a sex offender.
