Tam high schools district board voices support for budget cuts of $1.37 mil
The Tamalpais Union High School District is poised to make $1.37 million in staffing cuts, a move officials say is necessary to ensure the district remains financially stable in the face of rising special-education and personnel costs.
The district’s board of trustees will vote Feb. 11 on the list of proposed cuts, which would take effect in the 2025-2026 school year and include reductions for deans, intervention specialists and instructional coaches across the district’s five campuses, including Redwood High School, which serves kids from Tiburon and Belvedere, and Tamalpais High School, which serves kids who live in Strawberry.
The district is also proposing eliminating some vendor contracts and restructuring its summer-school program to save money.
Most of the staff positions that would be affected were created or funded by one-time state and federal COVID-related funding, which has expired, though Tamalpais High is set to lose one of its three assistant principals due to declining enrollment.
No classroom teachers would be laid off as part of the proposed budget reductions, with Superintendent Tara Taupier saying district leaders took care to “keep any reductions as far away from classroom instruction as we could.”
