Tam high schools district OKs $1.37 million in staffing cuts
The Tamalpais Union High School District board has formally approved $1.37 million in staffing cuts aimed at ensuring the district maintains a relatively balanced budget in the face of rising special-education and personnel costs.
The board voted unanimously Feb. 11 to make the cuts, which will take effect in the 2025-2026 school year, after signaling its informal support for the reductions at a Jan. 21 budget workshop. The cuts will affect deans, intervention specialists and instructional coaches at the district’s five campuses, including Redwood High School, which serves kids from Tiburon and Belvedere, and Tamalpais High School, which serves kids who live in Strawberry.
Most of the affected staff positions are known as “teachers on special assignment” and were created or funded by one-time state and federal COVID-related funding that has expired, though Tamalpais High will lose one of its three assistant principals due to declining enrollment. No classroom teachers will be laid off as part of the budget cuts.
