Tiburon adds extra cop with promotion of service aide

Tiburon has created an extra police officer position to make room for the promotion of Deny Cruz, a former service aide who has completed the academy and was to begin his field training Sept. 16.

The Town Council unanimously approved the staff restructuring at its Sept. 4 meeting, adding the ninth officer and reducing the number of service aides to two.

Cruz’s salary will be $96,228 per year, with total cost to the town of $109,468 after benefits, which will add about $19,700 per year to the budget.

“This particular decision was not based on an analysis of crime levels,” Tiburon Town Manager Greg Chanis said.

Crime in Tiburon for 2023 hit a record low for the third consecutive year, according to California Department of Justice data provided by the Police Department.
