Tiburon OKs Main Street closure for Ranch anniversary celebration
The Ranch will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a May 16 block party on lower Main Street after snagging the second of three town-sanctioned street closures for the year — though Mayor Holli Thier said she will advocate for adding a fourth closure to ensure that the town’s annual Juneteenth and Diwali celebrations can both continue to take place downtown.
Meanwhile, Thier said she also wants to increase the three annual street closures allocated to the Tiburon Peninsula Chamber of Commerce to five to allow for more Friday Nights on Main summer festivals. However, her Town Council colleagues suggested outreach to businesses is needed before deciding, as it was their negative feedback that spurred the six-closure limit in the first place.
It’s also unclear whether the chamber even wants to host more of the events after scaling the program back amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The council voted unanimously at its Feb. 19 meeting to approve the joint-recreation agency’s plan for a free 1970s-throwback party that is set to run from 6 to 8 p.m. May 16, with lower Main Street closed to traffic from 4 to 9 p.m.
