Tiburon parks commission recommends master plan, targeting ‘easy wins’

The Parks, Open Space and Trails Commission has given its stamp of approval to a master plan intended to guide the use of Tiburon’s parks and recreation system, with commissioners asking that, among other tweaks, the plan put a greater emphasis small “easy wins” that can be implemented quickly.

Commissioners voted 4-0, with Vice Chair Michael Moon absent, at their Oct. 24 meeting to recommend the Town Council approve the final draft at its own hearing Nov. 20.

Commissioners did ask consultant WRT to make some small changes. Commissioner Liz Judge said the focus should be on easier-to-implement components versus including a list of all potential possibilities in the master plan, saying there are enough ideas from residents to highlight what they want in parks, such as a standup paddleboard/kayak launch or adding native plants at Greenwood Beach, after nearly two years of crafting the document through workshops, surveys, pop-ups, walking tours, public hearings and multiple revisions.

“I think the more steer we can give (the council), or the more clear we can make our steer, the more likely they are to act on it,” Judge said. “But if we just give them menus, it’s possible they do nothing and they order nothing off the menus.”
