Tiburon's emergency sirens will get direct activation by county for faster alerts

Tiburon’s five emergency sirens will soon be able to be activated directly by county dispatchers under a countywide effort to streamline responses and to quickly notify residents during major emergencies like fires, earthquakes or tsunamis.

The upgrade, a joint project between the Tiburon Fire Protection District, Tiburon and Belvedere, will still allow the district to activate the sirens on its own but will fit them with radio technology that connects to the recently updated Marin Emergency Radio Authority system. That will allow the sirens to be triggered directly by the Marin Office of Emergency Management Command Center, which receives 911 calls first.

“That’s a huge benefit for us,” said Tiburon Assistant Fire Chief Tom Hellyer. “It takes a step off of our plate to respond immediately.”
