Don Stephens

On October 28, 2018, Don Stephens, our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Don will be deeply missed by his children, Jeffrey (Karen), Gregory (Marcie) and Jennifer (Peter) and his treasured grandchildren Megan, Sam, Emily, Miles and Ben.

He shared a wonderful life with his wife, Beverly, for over 61 years. Their loving marriage began with a chance encounter in Waikiki, HI. This “encounter” led to raising three children in Tiburon, CA, attending the weddings of those three kids and having the unbridled fun of witnessing the births of five beautiful grandkids.

Donald was born April 12, 1932, in San Francisco to William and Margaret Stephens. He often told interesting tales of growing up in the Mission District of San Francisco in 1940’s and ‘50’s and became a big fan of the San Francisco Seals baseball team, which of course let to his love of his cherished Giants.

Don attended Lincoln High School in San Francisco from 1947-50, playing offense and defense for the Mustangs football team in his junior and senior years. After two trying years at SF City College, Don was able to transfer to Stanford, ultimately graduating with a degree in journalism and writing for the Stanford Daily newspaper.

His passion for Stanford never waned as he held season tickets for football and never lost hope that a Rose Bowl victory would soon be theirs.

Don ultimately followed his father’s footsteps into the printing trades, working in printing sales and management for Stecher Traung Schmidt Lithographers and International Paper for over 40 years.

During the good years, Don enjoyed traveling with Beverly to Hawaii, Lake Tahoe and Europe.

He was good friend to all and always had a great joke to tell.

His love of oatmeal-raisin cookies and salami sandwiches will live on with his children and grandchildren.
